MANDARIN TEACHER (Part-time) The leading philosophy in our Languages Department:
The St. Clement’s School Languages Programme strives to help students develop and perfect the skills needed to communicate effectively with members of the global community, by inspiring in them an understanding of the modern world through different languages and diverse perspectives.
We invite innovative and passionate teachers to apply for the part-time position, starting August 2012.
In this part-time position, the Mandarin Teacher will provide all standard responsibilities of the role at a superior level, delivering curriculum to meet the individual needs of our students and evaluating their progress. The teacher will engage in full participation in the life of the school.
Qualifications
Education:
- A related Honours degree
- Preference will be given to candidates with a B. Ed (I/S) who hold a Certificate of Qualification and Registration with the OCT
Experience:
- Minimum of two years of superior teaching in Mandarin at the senior level
Relevant Skills & Attributes:
- Fluency or native-like fluency in Mandarin (“Pu Tong Hua”)
- Strong written communication skills in pinyin and simplified Chinese characters
- Knowledge of traditional Chinese characters an asset (but not required)
- A proven ability to nurture a caring rapport with students
- Strong communication, teamwork and instructional skills
- Demonstrated ability to integrate technology to enhance learning. Smartboard experience an asset
- Demonstrated commitment to girls’ education, and knowledge of girls’ developmental and educational needs
- Demonstrated willingness and ability to work and plan in collaboration with colleagues
- A passion for languages and language education

 Summer Advancement Assistant (June 18, 2012 – Aug 31, 2012) Reporting to the Associate Director of Development, the Summer Advancement Assistant will play an important role in supporting Advancement Department initiatives, with a particular focus on research, data entry, publication updates and other duties as required. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with demonstrated attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
Excellent relationship management skills are essential, as is the ability to handle confidential material and situations with discretion and sensitivity. Experience with a database system is preferred.
Responsibilities include:
- Online research
- Input information into Raiser’s Edge, following established data entry guidelines to ensure data quality and consistency
- Work closely with the Communication Officer to update St. Clement’s School publications
- Administrative support for members of the Advancement Department
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- University/college student preferred
- Data entry experience preferred
- Experience working in an office environment preferred
- Working knowledge of Raiser’s Edge or other fundraising database an asset
- Proven track record in time management and attention to detail
- Ability to work collaboratively as a member of the Advancement team
- Ability to deal tactfully with confidential data

 TECHNOLOGY & TEACHING COACH We invite innovative and passionate Teachers to apply for the full-time position of Technology & Teaching Coach, starting August for the 2012/2013 school year.
The major focus of this role is to enhance teacher capacity around the integration of technology while emphasizing the importance of backward design and authentic assessment to support student learning. The Technology & Teaching Coach will report to and work collaboratively with the Vice-Principal, Teaching, Learning & Curriculum to ensure that teachers (grades 1 to 12) are guided to embed technology into the student learning experience using a 21st century framework. The Technology & Teaching Coach will engage in full participation in the life of the school. Key responsibilities also include participating in co-curricular activities such as athletics.
Qualifications
Education:
- Post secondary undergraduate degree; a Masters degree is an asset
- B. Ed and hold a Certificate of Qualification and Registration with the OCT
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of classroom teaching experience
- Strong background in curriculum planning & design with an understanding of inquiry-based learning
- Demonstrated strength in the innovative use and integration of technology
- Knowledge and experience using web-based learning management systems and SMART Board technology
- Advanced Placement knowledge an asset
- Faculty coaching or teacher mentoring experience is an asset
Key Responsibilities
- Work with teachers at the planning stage to ensure meaningful integration of technology that enhances students' overall learning
- Collaborate with the Vice-Principal, Heads of School, and Curriculum and Department Leaders to implement the SCS 21 technology and curriculum vision
- Support the use of technology in the classroom, working in collaboration with the IT Department to ensure ease of access and efficient operation of technology resources for teachers and students
- Encourage innovation and risk-taking for teachers and students through modeling, coaching and direct instruction
- Stay abreast of educational and technology trends, understanding their implications for teaching and learning
- Responsible for finding new technologies that align with our strategic vision
- Identify areas of teacher technology learning needs and develop effective strategies to support teacher growth
- Work with the Vice-Principal and Director of Information Technology to ensure the future development and innovative use of technology, aligning it with the school's strategic vision
- Other duties as required
Relevant Skills & Attributes:
- Superb interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues
- Demonstrated personal and professional use of current social media and other tools (e.g., Foursquare, Twitter, etc.)
- Experience in curriculum development with an understanding of backward design
- Strong knowledge of assessment and evaluation
- Excellent understanding and use of technology; a demonstrated ability to match applications to learning goals
- Strong creativity and problem-solving abilities
- Well-developed presentation and communication skills
