A celebration of celebrations

Each year, SCS celebrates language and culture through our week-long Carnaval event. This year’s theme is “celebrations.” Cultural celebrations bring people together and that’s exactly what our Carnaval week has done through a kick-off assembly, inter-language and inter-grade visits, sign language workshops, karaoke featuring songs in French, Latin, Mandarin, and Spanish, and lunches featuring different regional foods.

As we celebrate language and culture, it gives us an opportunity to reflect on the importance of learning a foreign language. Two of our School values are respect and community, and this goes hand in hand with our language curriculum. When our girls learn other languages, they not only enhance their cognitive and analytical abilities, they learn about a culture that may be different from their own, and this generates and enhances a respect for and understanding of diversity, something St. Clement’s School is deeply committed to.

Here’s a look at the many ways SCS honoured multiculturalism and cultural celebrations during Carnaval!
