Recently, St. Clementâs played host for the FIRST Lego Robotics Tournament that was the qualifying competition for provincials. There were 11 teams in attendance and the competition was fierce! Representing SCS was our Junior team, the Hatchlings.
In preparation for the big event, our girls built a robot to complete challenges in a pre-built Lego obstacle course. They also designed a product that solved a âproblemâ related to this yearâs theme: water sustainability. They practiced twice weekly throughout the fall.
On tournament day, there are three judging rooms the teams pass through: one to assess robot design, one to test their research project/product, and one to assess overall teamwork. Following these assessments, teams participated in the Robot Game, a head-to-head competition on the Lego obstacle course, each team vying for the most points.
At the end of the day, one award is given out for each judging room and one for the winner of the Robot Game. The team(s) with the top average advance to provincials.
While SCS didnât advance to the provincials, we want to congratulate the Hatchlings for walking away with the Core Values award for gracious professionalism and teamwork. Additionally, Talya Martin â18 won the Mentor Award for her mentorship of the Hatchlings team.
