The Junior School academic program highlights collaboration, problem solving, and inquiry. It is enhanced by a full complement of co-curricular activities.
The students are mentored and inspired by the older students they encounter in the building daily, as well as by their peers in the Junior School. Grade 6s take on leadership roles within the Junior School.

The academic program at the Junior School provides a strong foundation of skills and knowledge.
Students in their Junior School years are naturally inquisitive, and this energy is focused through the use of problem-based learning. By focusing study on big ideas and allowing students to direct their learning, our students discover that learning is connected, relevant, and that it can have an impact on the world around them.
The Junior School is home to multi-disciplinary, skills-based learning in real-life contexts, supported by subject specialists.
Students have the opportunity to collaborate, problem solve, think critically, and persist through challenges.

In Grades 1-6, time is allocated each week for co-curricular activities.
Each student is expected to participate in an activity – and with such a broad range of choices, there’s something for everyone!
Students participate in Athletics beginning in Grade 1. Inter-school competitive athletics begin in Grade 4, using a ‘maximum participation’ model. There are no tryouts – everyone is encouraged to play.
Everyone in the St. Clement’s community – Grade 1s to Grade 12s, staff, and teachers – is assigned to a House: Stuart, Tudor, York, or Windsor.
LINCWell
Far beyond the core curriculum content, a key component of the program at SCS is the development of values, attitudes, and habits towards learning.
This development is supported by our innovative LINCWell (Learning, Individualization, Nurturing, Creativity, and Wellness) approach.
LINCWell’s overarching goal is to provide
each one of our students with key resources, or tools, as well as the ability to know when to use each tool according to their individual needs and preferences.
Having a “toolbox” of key resources to pull from contributes to each student’s wellbeing. As our students develop these tools, they are enabled to learn well, lead well, and live well; empowering them to be able to successfully navigate the opportunities and challenges
they will experience at SCS, and beyond.
Beyond the Classroom
To develop lifelong learners and girls who will impact the world after their time at St. Clement's, learning doesn't stop at the classroom door.
You’ll find Clementines involved in the community, beginning during their time at the Junior School. Experiential education includes classroom visitors, daytrips, overnight outdoor education trips beginning in Grade 4, and community partnerships with local post-secondary institutions and seniors’ residences. Guest speakers bring a wealth of knowledge to share.
Student Leadership
Our students develop leadership skills.
We are committed to providing learning experiences to build skills, and both formal and informal opportunities to apply those skills.
In the Junior School, the curriculum provides significant introduction to the elements of leadership. Junior School classes host school-wide assemblies on a regular basis. Grade 6 girls run ‘boot camp’ to get their fellow students (and staff!) moving in the morning.

New York Times best-selling author, Lisa Damour, PhD returns to SCS for the second presentation in “The Steady Presence” series, the year-long partnership between SCS and Dr. Damour.

One way that SCS seeks to foster a school community where members are known and valued is via several types of student forums. These forums, which include Affinity Groups (open to members of a particular identity), Open Alliances (open to everyone regardless of identity), and Brave Spaces (focused on education) are designed to encourage ongoing learning and to develop authentic allyship and support EDI-related issues and topics. Affinity Groups allow community members who share a common identity or an aspect of their identity—usually one that is marginalized or non-dominant—to gather and talk in a safe space about issues and experiences related to that identity. The Asian Students Affinity Group (ASAG) and the Black Students Affinity Group (BSAG) are two examples of affinity groups currently meeting regularly.
Recently, several students and staff identifying as APISA (Asian, Pacific-Islander, and South Asian) had the opportunity to travel to Atlanta, Georgia to attend the Asian Educators Alliance Student Conference. SCS was the only Canadian school in attendance – here’s a look at some of the highlights and key learnings from that experience!
We are so excited to start introducing the school-wide leadership roles for the 2024-2025 school year – beginning today with School Captain, Arts Captain, Sports Captain, and House Captain!
As a school, SCS is strongly committed to the development of leadership skills for all our students. As a culmination of this development, every Grade 12 student holds a formal leadership role – either school-wide, or co-curricular. We value both types of leadership roles equally as important opportunities to lead and mentor in a variety of ways.

Recently, Vice Principal Henricks and several other SCS Administrators attended the National Leaders Conference in Vancouver. In this week`s #PostcardFromSCS, Ms Henricks highlights a little of what she learned.
The Grade 1 class stepped out to search for signs of spring today. (What a perfect day to do it!) Along for the discovery walk: Upper School Science Teacher Ms Sardone, who helped the curious Grade 1s discover all kinds of noteworthy signs of spring including a robin’s egg, and a type of flower no one in the class had ever seen before! 🪺🌱🪻
Today is the day! Our Spring Open House is happening from 9:00-11:00 a.m. this morning. We can’t wait to meet our future Clementines🍊
Friday’s assembly was all about fun! Vice Principal Henricks mused about why we gather for assembly twice a week: “Assemblies are a time to come together and have a shared experience. We learn about important topics together…and it’s also key to come together just to have fun. That is so important for our wellbeing - and so as times get busy over the next few weeks heading to the end of the school year, please take time for fun, be silly, do things that bring you joy.” And that led directly into a very fun-filled, joyful rendition of SCS Name That Tune! 😎🫶🎉
Wish our Athletes of the Week, Vanessa L. `26 and Tina Y `25 good luck as they head off to OFSAA in Barrie on Thursday, May 2, and go head to head with the top badminton players in their division in Ontario. They were recently undefeated during the OFSAA badminton qualifier last Wednesday. We commend them for their hard work and can`t wait to cheer them on in Barrie 🏸
