Remembering Judy Mills, Past Staff

St. Clement’s School was saddened to learn of the passing of past staff member Judy Mills last December at the age of 79. Over her years at SCS, Judy taught Senior School students English. Judy loved the theatre and music, and was an avid supporter of artistic organizations. Especially given her chosen profession, she was also passionate about the written word, and is remembered by her students for her love of literature, as well as her dedication to helping them flourish.

One of Judy’s former SCS students, Victoria Wilcox ’71, shared this reflection with the School after learning of Judy’s passing:

Judy Mills was an inspired teacher, enthusiastic, and engaging. She introduced her students to the best of contemporary literature along with the classics. No one in our class (of ’71) could ever forget the year she spent guiding the Grade 11s through a production of Terrence Rattigan’s play The Winslow Boy. Judy cared passionately about her students, and they loved and respected her. Throughout her life, Judy was a generous supporter of good causes, from the arts to women in need.

Judy’s retirement was a very active one: she sang in a choir, travelled extensively, and taught seniors to write their memoirs. She stayed in touch with many former students and colleagues to the end of her life. Judy is greatly missed by all who loved her.
