SCS had exceptional success at the International Independent Schools Public Speaking Championships (IISPSC) in Oakville this past weekend! Valerie F. ’28, Eli W. ’27, and Cherry Y. ’27 each gave committed and engaging performances in a wide variety of speeches both planned (pre-written and practiced) and impromptu ("on the spot").
Cherry and Valerie competed together in the Cross-Examination Debate finals; Valerie also achieved the distinction of reaching the finals in all three of her categories: Cross-Examination Debate, Parliamentary Debate, and Extemporaneous Speaking.
As a result of her performances, we are so proud to announce that Valerie has been selected to be one of the representatives for Team Canada at the World Public Speaking Championships in Shanghai, China in March!

In social studies, the Grade 5s have been learning about the role of government and responsible citizenship. To make real-world connections between their current unit of study and the legislative process, the class took a field trip to the Legislative Assembly of Ontario earlier this month. Together, they learned about government and parliament, parliamentary figures and their roles, and what it means to be an active and informed citizen.
Months in the making! (Dare we even say, 125 years in the making?)
Last spring after careful planning, intense organization, and some meteorological finger-crossing, we soared to new heights high above the Side Yard to capture the full staff and student community in celebratory style for our quasquicentennial.
Recently, the Grade 3s enjoyed an author visit...from Artlie H. `37! She came to share the book she wrote and illustrated in her Grade 2 class with the older students. 📚
The SCS community is invited to attend a conversation about dementia home care with Dr. Jenny (Lobb) Ingram ’68, Geriatric Medicine Specialist, and a screening of her documentary, No More Silent Battles.

Dr. Ingram has spent her career as a trailblazer in senior care. From founding the Kawartha Centre to establishing GAIN Geriatric teams, her advocacy has changed the landscape for senior health in Ontario. No More Silent Battles, a powerful documentary that shines the light on the growing crisis of dementia care in Canada, is her latest endeavour to ensure the voices of families dealing with dementia are heard.

In her role as House Captain for the 2026-2027 academic year, Lauren D. ’27 shared a heartfelt reflection on the freedom to be unapologetically yourself, one of the qualities she values most about St. Clement’s School.
Lauren spoke about the unique culture of the School, where students feel encouraged to take risks, embrace new opportunities, and, in her words, “be as weird as you want to be.” From confidently giving the wrong answer in class to showing up to House Day in an over-the-top outfit, she celebrated the supportive environment that allows students to step outside their comfort zones without fear of judgment.
Lauren shared stories from her own SCS journey, including her memorable first House Day in Grade 7 and the nerves she felt joining the Concert Band as a Grade 8 student. While both experiences pushed her beyond her comfort zone, they ultimately led to lasting friendships and some of her most rewarding experiences at SCS.
As House Captain, Lauren hopes to foster a House community where every student feels welcome to participate, show their spirit, and discover new passions, all while embracing what makes them uniquely themselves.
