St. Clement’s School’s Alumnae Book Club, hosted by former SCS English teachers, gets started next Thursday, November 21 with the first of four meetings this school year!
Former SCS English teacher Ruth Griffiths leads this discussion, a look at Ian McEwan’s beguiling Machines Like Me. It has been called McEwan’s best novel in years.
Described in The New York Times as “a sharply intelligent novel of ideas,” and in The New Yorker as “witty and humane,” McEwan’s novel takes place in an alternative 1980s London and poses the questions of whether a machine can understand the human heart – or whether we are the ones who lack understanding.
There’s still time to pick up a copy of the novel and join SCS’s Alumnae Book Club for its inaugural meeting! Participants may join us at SCS in the Lassonde Library from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m., or participate remotely.
Please get in touch with Meagan Thomas at meagan.thomas@scs.on.ca to RSVP.
Until then, read on!
