#SportsSpotlight – Safia A. ’23 – Track and Field

Safia A. ’23 first decided to try out for the SCS Track and Field Team in Grade 4, after a successful stint on the Cross Country Team ignited a love of running. Once on the team, she discovered that the jumping and throwing events were just as fun! Now competing in her third season, some of her favourite events are the 400m and 800m sprints, hurdles, and long jump.

A well-rounded athlete (Safia also enjoys volleyball, soccer, and skiing), she calls out setting and achieving goals, learning new techniques, and cheering on her teammates as highlights from her time on the team to date. Competing on the track, Safia takes inspiration from a speedy source – Canadian sprinter and Olympic medalist Andre De Grasse, whom she credits with showing others that it’s never too late to start something new when it comes to following your passion.
