York House Day

Friday November 30, 2018 was York House Day at SCS and 21 St. Clements Avenue was decked-out in every imaginable shade of yellow from lemon to mustard, amber to chartreuse, and myriad golden hues in between.

St Clementā€™s School has four Houses; York is yellow, Windsor is purple, Tudor is red, and Stuart is green. Every student and member of staff is assigned to a House and throughout the course of the school year, the four Houses vie for the House Cup which is awarded annually in May.

Points are awarded not just for each Houseā€™s enthusiasm, energy, excitement, and teamwork at the House Days, but also for everything from Volunteering, Leadership, and Ambassadorship, to the Athletic team, Musical Ensembles, and Robotics throughout the entire year.

On House Days, everyone is expected to wear at least a splash of House colour while each House Day also has a theme which can garner extra points. Yorkā€™s chosen theme this time was the movie ā€œDespicable Meā€ which resulted in the School being overrun with mischievous minions of all shapes and sizes.

While the House system dates back to 19th century English public schools, the system is particularly familiar to anyone who has ever read any Harry Potter book or seen any of the movies.

As for who will be House Cup champion this year, weā€™ll all just have to wait and see!
