Students in our Grade 4 Teaching Kitchen club spent 6 weeks this winter honing their culinary skills. They prepared breakfast, lunch, dinner, and dessert from scratch, learned about the history and science behind some of their favourite dishes, and got to take home their delicious creations.

Would they recommend joining this club? Yes, chef! 🍲

Earlier today, the American History class visited the Archives of Ontario at York University to learn about the role that archives play in preserving and communicating the past. Our Clementines also worked with primary sources to develop and curate exhibits focusing on different themes related to Canadian-American relations in the mid-to late-twentieth century.

Spring arrived in a fun and festive way this morning as our community came together for a school‑wide egg hunt! Planned by our Prefects and House Heads, the event had students and staff searching across three floors for eggs with their names on them. The reward for a successful find? A chocolate egg, of course! A handful of golden eggs were also hidden around SCS, raising the stakes with an even more premium treat for those lucky enough to discover one. 🥚🌱

It was a wonderful way to welcome the spring season together as a community!

Last week, the Junior School took part in a Passover Seder during Community Time, hearing the story of Passover and learning about the significance of the Seder plate. Students also had the opportunity to experience some of the traditional elements like the Seder prayers, tasting matzah, and dipping bitter herbs in salt water!

In this week’s Postcard, Principal Perry explores the concept of critical hope, inspired by conversations from our Nowruz celebration and the thoughtful reflections of our students.

At the end of last week, the Junior Choir, Senior Choir, and Chamber Choir all attended and performed at the Ontario Vocal Festival. Each choir performed a selection of music, received feedback from a panel of adjudicators, and participated in clinics to refine their pieces. 🎶

We are excited to share that their hard work and musicality have been recognized with an invitation to MusicFest Nationals in May for all three choirs!

In Tuesday’s assembly, Prefects went head‑to‑head with House Heads in a high‑stakes blender challenge that tested knowledge, luck, and a strong stomach! SCS staff filled out a survey the week before, and their answers became multiple‑choice questions for the teams to guess.

✅ Correct answer? A mystery good ingredient went into your blender.
❌ Wrong answer? A mystery bad ingredient joined the mix.

And yes: no matter what, everyone had to blend it… and drink it.

The less‑than‑appealing ingredients included hot sauce, mustard, ranch dressing, pickle juice, teriyaki sauce, mayonnaise, soy sauce, and ketchup. The crowd’s reaction to pickle juice alone said everything! 😂

Thankfully, there were some sweeter additions as well, including raspberries, orange juice, blueberries, and frozen fruit.

Win or lose, both teams proved they were willing to fully commit for the sake of school spirit!
