Students in Grades 1 and 2 were learning from a guest scientist last week! They collaborated with several hands-on experiments as part of an introduction to their new science unit, Properties of Matter.

It’s Assessment Week for Grades 9-12 students starting tomorrow, and we’re wishing them all the best of luck! These locker notes are not new, but they still very much apply. 👏😀

On the last Friday prior to the winter break, the Grade 5s hosted a Wellness Afternoon for the entire Junior School. Inspired by the Healthy Mind Platter, a framework that highlights the seven types of daily activities our brains need to stay well and balanced, they thoughtfully planned a variety of activities that invited students to enjoy a mindful and fun afternoon together.

With our return to SCS this week, the Grade 5 class led Junior School Community Time and revisited the Healthy Mind Platter, encouraging Grades 1-6 to reflect on ways they can live a more balanced life each day.

This morning’s assembly encouraged a little friendly competition between the grades with a “Name That Movie Tune” bingo challenge!

The West Foyer was turned into an art studio one recent afternoon when members of the Art Avenue co-curricular club gathered at the end of the day for a little magic. Students from Grades 4, 5, and 6 were led by Ms Abbiento and other members of SCS staff to express their creativity. Inspired by artist and educator Olivia Gude, who is known for her community public art mural and mosaic projects, each SCS artist was given their own “island” of paper and encouraged to allow the pace, tone, and energy of a series of drumbeats to guide their movements as they expressed themselves in one dimension. Later, the students paired with a neighbour to continue the process!

This winter weather to start the week reminded us of a really cool (😉) initiative from our student-led Wellbeing Committee. Grades 9-12 were asked to create “snowflake affirmations” during Homeform time, which were then added to the cozy décor in the LINCWell Centre where they continue to flutter from above! ❄️

The City of Toronto is currently planning a parkette to be located at the corner of Duplex and Castlefield, just to the south of St. Clement’s School. As part of the process, they have been consulting local residents and the community on what they would like to see included in the development. Since the very beginning, they have also been engaging with SCS and have been particularly impressed with the enthusiasm, interest, and suggestions of our students. Recently, second phase plans for the parkette were brought into 21 St. Clements and students and staff were given the opportunity to participate in a little “dotmocracy” to indicate, using coloured dots, their preferences for the designs and their components. The final design will be selected next year with construction due to begin in 2027.
