Last week, we were thrilled to host our annual New Parent Dinner! The evening featured a menu of student favourites, reimagined with an elevated twist.

It was a wonderful opportunity to connect with new families and welcome them into our SCS community.

Our current fall athletics season is well underway - and while we`re clapping for current Clementines as they head off across the city to fields, pitches, courts, and pools, it`s also a chance to cheer on previous athletes who have proudly represented SCS over the years! Athletics have long been an important part of the SCS experience, building confidence, teamwork, resilience, and lifelong friendships - not to mention lots of amazing memories! - along the way.

Today, we join communities across Canada in marking the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, a day to reflect on the tragic legacy of residential schools and to honour the children who never returned home, as well as the Survivors, families, and communities who continue to carry their impacts.

Throughout the week, our community has participated in a variety of opportunities for learning and reflection. On Monday, our student Indigenous Affairs Circle led a National Day for Truth and Reconciliation Commemoration in assembly, sharing Walking Together by Elder Albert Marshall and introducing students to the concept of Two-Eyed Seeing. Following the reading, Sophia B. ’27 reminded us that reconciliation is about more than reflection. It is about learning, listening, and taking action to honour Survivors, remember the children who were lost, and help build a future rooted in dignity and respect.

Today, students were invited to wear orange shirts over their uniforms in recognition of Orange Shirt Day and took part in guided Flex Time discussions that expanded on Monday’s learning. Through Walking Together and the teaching of Two-Eyed Seeing, students explored how Indigenous and Western ways of knowing can work together, considered the experiences and perspectives that shape how we see the world, and reflected on the importance of respecting different knowledge systems as we continue the work of reconciliation.

As a further act of remembrance, the flag at SCS is being flown at half-mast.

Last week, our Student Council Presidents and Community Partnership Leads led a meaningful Junior School Community Time activity focused on food insecurity. Through hands-on learning, Grades 1-6 students explored the importance of supporting those in need while helping raise awareness for SCS`s annual Thanksgiving Food Drive.

This Thanksgiving season, SCS is once again partnering with St. Clement`s Church and @nyhfb to collect non-perishable food items for families and individuals in our community. Donations can be dropped off in the Main Foyer until October 8. 💙

We have a full fall line-up of co-curriculars and clubs now underway at SCS – including the Pawsitively Pets club for Junior School students! Members gathered recently to learn interesting facts about several small, furry friends. 🐹🐰
